Dharma Study Group: Beyond Distraction
Beginning Monday, March 18, the IMC-Lewes Dharma Study Group will begin reading Beyond Distraction: Five Practical Ways to Focus the Mind by Shaila Catherine.
Buddhist author and meditation teacher, Shaila Catherine, is the founder of Bodhi Courses, an online Dhamma classroom, and Insight Meditation South Bay, a center for mindfulness, compassion, and wisdom in Silicon Valley, in California.
Written in 2022, this book offers an accessible strategy for training the mind on removing distracting thoughts in meditation practice. Following the Buddha’s approach, each chapter offers exercises and reflections to achieve deeper concentration by directing attention more skillfully to eliminate stressful, anxious, hurtful, and resentful thoughts and, thus, to cultivate growth and stability in one’s meditation practice.
Shalia Catherine writes: “Whether you’re a beginner who struggles to tame a restless mind or an advanced meditator who strives to deepen concentration and insight, the techniques presented here can help you cultivate clarity and stability in your meditation practice and beyond.”
The book is available in paperback from Wisdom Publications, Amazon, and Simon & Schuster.
The Dharma Study Group meets first and third Monday of the month at 5pm on Zoom. All are welcome to join us. To receive the meeting credentials and notifications about the Dharma Study Group, subscribe to our mailing list and the check the Dharma Study Group box on the form.
