DSG: The Magnanimous Heart
IMC Lewes is pleased to announce that beginning Monday, September 21, 2026, the Dharma Study Group (DSG) will begin reading The Magnanimous Heart: Compassion and Love, Loss and Grief, Joy and Liberation by Narayan Helen Liebenson.
The Magnanimous Heart explores how Buddhist practice can help us meet the full range of human experience—from love and joy to loss, grief, and other painful emotions—with greater balance, openness, and compassion. Liebenson draws on meditation and wise inquiry to show how even difficult experiences can become part of a path toward greater freedom.
Throughout the book, Liebenson invites us to cultivate what she calls a “magnanimous heart” — one spacious enough to receive whatever arises without being governed by expectations or by how we think things “should” be. Her teachings offer practical ways of working with vulnerability, grief, pleasure, joy, and uncertainty while developing a compassionate way of meeting ourselves and our lives.
The book is available from Wisdom Experience and Amazon.
The Dharma Study Group meets on the first and third Mondays of each month at 5 p.m. All are welcome to join.
