sangha pix-teacherWe are a group committed to using the practice of meditation to explore the dharma, the spiritual path delineated by Gautama Buddha 2500 years ago. Our mission is to support the awakening of hearts and minds through the direct experience of the Buddhist path, and the integration and manifestation of wisdom and compassion in all aspects of life, for the benefit of all beings.

Although we call ourselves an Insight, or Vipassana meditation community, our group includes persons of other Buddhist and non-Buddhist spiritual traditions who wish to use meditation to deepen their spiritual practice.

At the heart of insight meditation is the practice of focusing the attention on the breath, thus concentrating and calming the mind. This practice leads to Mindfulness or moment-to-moment observation that results in a clear, stable and non-judgmental awareness.

Mindfulness practice as a spiritual path develops wisdom, compassion, loving kindness, generosity, and virtue.

Dharma Study Group

The IMC-Lewes Dharma Study Group has been meeting for more than 12 years reading books by contemporary (mostly western) writers on the application of Buddhist principles and practice in our lives. The focus of our discussion tends to be how practicing the dharma helps us to improve the quality of our lives. It is a very thoughtful sharing group.

We currently meet on Zoom on the first and third Monday of the month at 5pm. All are welcome.
